Fishing waters

In Jämtland Härjedalen there are over 17 000 lakes and 2800 km rivers. Natural production of fish have summarily been estimated at 3000 tonnes per year. Water is one of the regions vast natural resources.

Strömfiske

2 800 kilometres of rivers and streams equates to a lot of flowing water. Some of the best-known waters are the rivers Hårkan and Långan, Gimån, Dammån, Ammerån, Rörströmsälven and Ljusnan.

Lakes

In Jämtland Härjedalen there are more than 17 000 lakes, ranging in size and character, from highland tarns, creeks and small lakes to larger bodies of water. Storsjön is by far the largest, an expanse of 45 600 hectares. Fish from land, hire a boat or arrange a guided trolling tour.

In the mountains

The highland fishing in Jämtland Härjedalen promises not to disappoint. There are plenty of waters to choose from, easily accessible and in hard to reach places, with even a chance for guided expeditions to exclusive waters. Stay in comfort at one of the fishing camps in the mountains within easy reach of the fishing waters or helicopter out into the wilderness for a truly exotic experience.

Dammån

Dammån
The River Dammån meanders down the 40 km from Höglekardalen to Lake Storsjön; at times gushing, at times flowing slowly. Here is a wonderful blend of mountain landscape and deep valleys.

Ammerån

The swift rapids of the River Ammerån are one of the few unregulated waterways in Sweden. Ammerån’s water system is the second largest inlet of the River Indalsälven and the surroundings are enchanting – the deep ravine is framed by tall, bluish mountains

Storsjön

Storsjön
Here the brown trout mingle with pike and the mythical Great Lake Monster – Storsjöodjuret. Fishing in and around Lake Storsjön is easy and accessible with many fine fishing grounds within walking distance of central Östersund and Frösön.

Ströms Vattudal

Along Ströms Vattudal there is a chain of large lakes. The rivers widens in the forests, forming long stretched, large lakes and lake systems. There are countless many small glittering lakes, rushing streams and meandering rivers.

Södra Årefjällen In Södra (southern) Årefjällen, the summer is short, intense and stunningly beautiful while the winter is long and glitteringly gorgeous.

Hårkan-Långan

The two sister Rivers Hårkan and Långan is classical home to hunters and fishermen in Jämtland.

Östra Härjedalen

The Hogdalsbygden area is situated in the borderland between Härjedalen,Hälsingland and Medelpad. Many happy anglers return year after year to Hogdalsbygden.

Vemdalen

Vemdalen has a rich offering of fishing opportunities, both in the mountains and the forests.

Södra Härjedalen

The Southern part of Härjedalen attracts fishing enthusiasts from all over Sweden, especially during late winter. This is the time when the regulated Lake Svegsjön is at its lowest and all the fish gather in the old grooves of the river Veman.

Hoting-Fjällsjö

The area Hoting-Fjällsjö, in the north-east of Jämtland, offers great fishing waters such as the lakes Lesjön, Hotingsjön, Bodumsjön and the river Rörströmälven.

Åreälven

Åre is best known for its alpine activities but more and more people have become aware of the great fishing opportunities in the area. A perfect area for those looking for a wilderness experience but also for fishing with a proximity to civilization.

Funäsfjällen

In Funäsdalen there are more fishing waters than fishermen. Here the options range from easily accessible family fishing waters for novices to challenging highland waters for the experts.

Hotagen

In Hotagen in the North East of Jämtland you find yourself in the middle of a fishing paradise! The district is located along Fiskevägen (the Fishing Road), Road nr. 340, which runs between Krokom in Sweden and Namsos in Norway.

Frostviken

Frostviken
The highlands of Frostviken are situated in the northernmost part of Jämtland and the proximity to the Lapland fells is obvious in this vast and unspoiled fells area. This area has some of the best fishing on offer in the Jämtland fells.

Övre Ljungan

The Ljungaleden route takes you through mountains and forest. Klövsjö, Åsarna, Börtnan, Storsjö and Övre Hoan not only offer enchanting views but also crystal clear, fresh water, which is the natural habitat for Brown Trout, Arctic Char and Grayling.

Gimån

Gimån
Many fishermen using a rod in streams find the Gim river a favourite, in particular on account of the fabulous grayling. This unexplored forest river is one of the most scenic streams in Jämtland County.

Indalsälven

Indalsälven
Along the river there are a lot of good places for fishing and chances are good for catching trout, grayling, whitefish and pike.
